This is what $500 worth of Target shoes looks like...

You would think we must be at Target.  Nope, our Great Room.  Graham got new orthotics that I am trying to fit.  Each time he gets a new pair, I head off shoe shopping alone.  I bring his orthotics to the store with me, grab several styles and sizes, plop down on the floor and start shoving the orthotic in different shoes.  It's a sight and people often ask me what I am doing.  Once I have the shoe styles that work best narrowed down, I buy several styles and several sizes of each and come home and do a fitting.  The fitting takes some time and is a lot of work because shoes don't slip over the orthotic so easily.  That's why we do it at home with the help of a distracting TV.  Usually I find a couple pairs that work and take the rest back.  This time, not so much!

His new orthotic is bigger than the last pair, so it has been more difficult.  The first time I went I came home with about 15 pairs of shoes....none of which worked out.  The set above is the second batch I brought home.  You should have seen the looks I got going through the check-out!  Out of the 21 pairs in the picture, how many do you think worked out?  Zero!  Zero out of about 50 pairs, that doesn't even count all the shoes I ruled out at the store.

I went back out again today and have another 10 pairs waiting for Graham to try on after his nap.  I have high hopes this time.  Wish us luck!

Too bad I didn't have all the pairs in one picture, then the title of this post would be, "This is what $1,000 worth of Target shoes looks like!"

Wow what an ordeal. Hope something works out perfectly. I can only imagine what could happen should he have a huge growth spurt. :)

Oh. My. Word! I do know your pain though I've never had to buy that many at one time. We usually just grit our teeth and take Em daphos and all with us from store to store..... but it is NO FUN! And shoe shopping should always be fun!

Good luck with the next round!

Wow! That is an ordeal....I have a friend locally who recently found out their almost 14 month-old will need orthotics eventually. I'll have to send her this blog post so she gets an idea of how you do it!

I remember having to shop for shoes to fit over Ryan's AFO's as well! Now that he's older, he no longer wears them and his feet have turned in significantly. He will never walk so they were really to keep his feet from turning in and they caused him so much pain that we opted to just have him wear shoes instead. Getting shoes to fit over a bent foot is really an ordeal! Yikes! Good luck with your shoe shopping!!
